Season by season
Spring (April–May). Snow lingers in the groves while the foothills are green and full of wildflowers. The Kings Canyon road usually reopens around late April or May.
Summer (June–August). All roads, shuttles and facilities are open. Days are warm in the forest and hot in the foothills; afternoon thunderstorms are possible.
Autumn (September–October). Settled, mild weather, fewer visitors and some autumn colour. Services begin to close from mid-October.
Winter (November–March). Snow blankets the sequoias and trails become snowshoe routes. Chain controls are common and several roads are shut.
